재료(자개)가 지닌 물성의 생성 원인을 탐구하고 이를 모티브로 삼아 햇살에 반짝이는 윤슬, 푸르스름한 밤바다의 파도 등을 표현한 작품이다. 헤아릴 수 없는 깊이와 크기만큼 오랜 시간을 품고 있는 바다의 광막함은 경계를 불식시키고, 그 위로 바람이 일으키는 푸른 물결이 진폭을 달리하고 시간의 변화에 따른 햇살 아래 감각적으로 흔들린다.
표면을 뒤덮은 작은 조각들은 각각 물, 바람, 해, 달, 구름이 되어 바다를 만들고 파도를 넘실거리게 한다. 소멸, 생성, 변화를 쉼 없이 반복하며 선명하게 드러나는 시간의 흔적은 에너지를 응축하고 순환시키며 푸른 생명력을 가득 채운다.

Beyond the Ocean is a work that was visually expressed after the exploration of the material’s physical properties, which were then used as a motif. The vastness of the ocean, which embraces a long period of time that’s as immeasurable as its depth and size, eliminates boundaries and resets them. And the blue waves above it, created by the winds, vary in size, as they tremble with sensation under the sunlight that changes over time. The small pieces that blanket the surface become the water, the wind, the sun, the moon, and the clouds to create the ocean and cause the waves to surge. Clearly revealed through the continuous repetition of extinction, creation, and change, the traces of time concentrate energy and circulate it to fill with the green of life.

조선시대 화가 오원 장승업의 홍백매도’ 에서 영감을 받아 만든 작품이다. 과감하고 웅장한 나무 둥치와 손이 가는 대로 두들긴 화려한 꽃의 만개에서는 추위를 이겨내고 가장 먼저 피어나는 매화처럼 강한 생명력과 에너지가 흐른다. 밝은 색의 배경에 비정형적으로 수놓은 꽃송이들은 추상적이며 배경과의 경계를 흐트러뜨리고 빛에 따라 자개빛이 리드미컬하게 움직인다.

한 시대를 풍미했던 대화가의 그림을 현재를 살고 있는 작가의 시각으로 표현한 새로운 이미지는 100년 전, 후의 아티스트들이 시간을 초월해 서로 영향을 주고 받으며 공통의 미적 주제를 향유하는 교감, 공감, 소통의 의미를 담는다.

As an extension of the Beyond the Ocean series, MOONLIGHT is a work that transfers the moonlight shining on the sea and the ocean lit by the moon onto a moon jar or a flat surface. Surging through the waves created by the endless flow and curves as soft and elegant as splashes of water, the numerous pieces repeatedly move, gathering and separating, flowing and breaking, to embrace the light of the shimmering ripples under the sun and the glistening waves of the blue night sea.
